Area -Mt.Kilimanjaro-

“Kili” is truly one of the most impressive sights in Africa. It can be seen from various points in northern Tanzania, and even from far away as from Tsavo and Amboseli Parks in Kenya. Part of its spectacular appeal is that Kilimanjaro is not part of a mountain range

-it’s a 19,342 ft/5,895 m. dormant volcano rising dramatically from a relatively flat plain-
it’s the world’s highest freestanding mountain. Try to see it before 10 am, before clouds cover the snowcapped peak.

The nearest town of any importance (about 3 hours by car from the Childrens Centre) is Moshi (pop.191.000), a coffee-trading center, where you can find shops, a market, banks and a big hospital (KCMC).

The Rombo district is located at the east side of the Kilimanjaro mountain. It is one of the poorer districts in Tanzania, is densely populated (400.000 people) and highly fertile (coffee and bananas). The residents of Rombo district depend on subsistence agriculture and small businesses, mainly cross border trading with Kenya and timber related products.
The Cornel Ngaleku Childrens Centre is located at LETO village in Usseri division of Rombo district, close to the Kenyan border.
