The construction of the Centre is a private initiative by Mr. Michael N. Shirima, supported by the Member of Parliament for Rombo and Minister of Finance Hon.Basil P. Mramba.
The family of Mr. Shirima has agreed to offer the land, out of which the space for the orphanage has been carved out, without any compensation. With the donation of Mr. Shirima and under his supervision the building of the Centre started in 2003.
The name of the Centre has been chosen in honour of the late owner of the land, the father of Michael Shirima, Cornel Ngaleku!
The Orphanage wants to provide a warm and welcome home for about 100 children in the age of 0 – 8 year.
There is a growing amount of these poor children, because of poverty and AIDS/HIV.
By means of the social- and welfare officers the children are detected, registrated and placed into the Orphanage. Whenever possible they should be replaced into their or any other family and start schooling around the age of 8 years old.
There are about 20 people working in the Centre, excluded volunteers.
Finance and Donation:
The aim of the founder is that there will be an independent centre, run by local people and generating its own costs. Also (later on) governmental and private support will be welcomed to establish a better financial situation for the future and to finance special projects.
For support of the Centre a foundation has been developed:
The ”Cornel Ngaleku Childrens Centre Foundation”, home in the Netherlands.
